Pylons

A pylon is a plug & fly system directly mounted under the A/C and dedicated to  carry :

  • Payloads/missiles/bombs: thanks to a hanging system named Ejection Release Unit (ERU) embedded in the pylon
  • Fuel tanks: a kerosene circuit is embedded in the pylon and interfaced with the A/C
  • Multiple bomb rack (also named adaptor or weapon launcher): an electrical circuit is in the pylon (BUS 1553, GPS) in order to ensure the dialog between the rack and the A/C

Multiple Bomb Racks

The multiple bomb rack (also named adaptor or weapon launcher) is a plug & fly system mounted under a pylon in order to increase the payload capacity of the A/C (2, 3 or 4 munitions at the same time under one single pylon).

This system can carry smart munitions (laser guided, inertial guided, GPS guided, etc.).

A specific electrical circuit is integrated in the multiple bomb rack to ensure the dialog between the smart bomb and the A/C (BUS 1553, GPS, etc).

Ejection Release Units

The ERU (Ejection Release Unit) is a plug & fly system for fighters, used to hang and to eject various loads. It uses pyrotechnical or pneumatic energy to its pistons to push the payload.

Both ERUs and RUs require a high level of safety (unexpected release of a payload is not acceptable)

Gravity Release Unit

The RU (Release Unit) is a plug & fly system generally for armed helicopters, used to hang and release various charges. The electro-mechanical actuators open the hooks and release the payload (only by gravity, no ejection).

This Systems require a high level of safety (unexpected release of a payload is not acceptable)

Arming & Safety Lanyards

The arming lanyard acts on the sub-systems of a guided weapon as: deployable empennage, fuze, battery...

It is based on the mechanical principle which allows delaying the mechanical activation of the sub-systems embedded into the weapon. This delay is not a time delay but rather a safety “distance”.
